Jacob Love, Esq.

Senior Attorney

Jacob Love joined Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR) in 2022. As a Senior Attorney, Jacob develops cutting-edge litigation across a wide range of civil rights issues, focusing his practice primarily on fair housing and voting rights.

In 2023, Jacob filed major lawsuits to enforce the MBTA Communities Zoning Law and to preserve Massachusetts’ pioneering Right-to-Shelter Law. His MBTA Zoning work served as a catalyst for subsequent enforcement litigation by the Attorney General’s Office, which he has championed on behalf of community organizations in an amicus brief before the Supreme Judicial Court.  Jacob also serves as co-counsel in LCR’s groundbreaking class action on behalf of the Martha’s Vineyard migrants.

More recently, Jacob has filed multiple landmark fair housing cases, including:

  • Housing Rights Initiative v. Charlesgate Realty Group, LLC et al. (civil rights “testing” lawsuit against 20 Boston-area landlords and brokers for refusing to rent units to low-income tenants with government-subsidized housing vouchers); and
  • Case et al. v. Parakeet Communities LLC et al. (class action on behalf of low-income residents of two mobile home parks in Auburn, MA, alleging that the parks’ owner has subjected the residents to a series of unfair and exploitative practices).

In addition to his litigation docket, Jacob’s advocacy work helps to preserve equal access to the ballot box. He plays a leadership role in the Massachusetts Election Modernization Coalition, which aims to improve state election policy. And during the 2022 and 2024 election cycles, he coordinated the largest and oldest non-partisan Election Protection program in New England, training and managing hundreds of volunteer poll monitors.

Prior to joining LCR, Jacob worked as a housing attorney at The Legal Aid Society in New York City. There, he successfully litigated cases to improve housing conditions for tenant associations in the Bronx and collaborated with community groups endeavoring to preserve affordable housing in New York City. Jacob also previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Eric Neyman of the Massachusetts Appeals Court, and the Hon. George Z. Singal of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.

An award-winning attorney, Jacob received the Boston Bar Association’s prestigious President’s Award for his groundbreaking work on behalf of the Martha’s Vineyard migrants. Jacob earned his J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from Boston College Law School and holds a B.A. in political science from the College of the Holy Cross.
