The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice received the Organization of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Association of Hispanic Attorneys (MAHA). The award was presented at a reception held at Locke Lord in Boston, MA.
As our Executive Director, Iván Espinoza-Madrigal, noted at the reception: “We’ve had an amazing year tackling diversity and discrimination from Amazon and Airbnb to Boston Latin and Boston Police. We’re now the hub of racial justice in Boston and we are setting the civil rights agenda. We’re proud to receive this award on behalf of the communities we serve.”
At the reception, the Lawyers’ Committee called for greater diversity in the legal profession. According to the ABA, 88% of all lawyers are white; less than 5% are black; only 4% are Latino; and only 3% are Asian. Less than 36% are women. As our Executive Director noted: “We urgently call for greater diversity in our profession and we stand ready to work with our allies to tackle diversity challenges.”
In the New York Times, our executive director makes the case for diversity in the legal profession.
