Resolution Creates Forward-Looking Workplace Reforms <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Justice at Work<\/strong>, attorneys for Paula Fortes, a Black Cape Verdean woman, announced a settlement today to resolve an employment discrimination case alleging years of pervasive sexual harassment and identity-based harassment at a New Bedford fishery. The settlement includes systemic reforms to prevent similar discrimination in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Fortes was a maintenance worker at a New Bedford fishery for over three years. Throughout her employment, other workers made disparaging comments about her hair texture, referring to her as having \u201cbroom hair.\u201d Male workers constantly made comments about her body:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
