Update on Emergency Court Hearing for Mother Separated From 9-Year Old Son

Racial Justice

The federal court in Boston heard oral argument in an emergency case seeking the immediate reunification of a 9 year-old boy with his mother.

The judge is taking the matter under advisement.

“I fled Brazil seeking safety for my child and myself. I have now been separated from my son for over 43 days. This pain is unbearable,” said W.R., the boy’s mother.

At the hearing, counsel for W.R. and A.R. made arguments highlighting that the irreparable harm is compounded on an hourly basis.

We are now awaiting a decision.

An updated statement from the mother will be provided as the case progresses.
