Reuniting Children with their Parents: Boston-Based Rapid-Response Initiative to Remedy Border Injustice
We are all too familiar with the harrowing stories of children and parents being torn apart at the border. But the reverberations of injustice are not easily confined. Right here in Boston, we are now seeing the human cost of this tragedy. Parents are starting to be released, and many are now arriving in our own backyard.
Mothers ripped apart from their children are coming to the Brazilian Worker Center and the Lawyers’ Committee seeking one thing: to be reunited with their children.
In the latest incident, a 9 year-old boy has been held at the border for nearly a month, completely deprived of his mother who doesn’t even know where he is being detained.
This is unrelenting, inhumane and un-American. It cannot continue.
In response to this urgent need, the Brazilian Worker Center and the Lawyers’ Committee are joining forces to stabilize, protect and legally reunite broken families.This new collaboration between our organizations will harness community strength and the pro bono prowess of Boston’s leading law firms to provide free legal support to families who are under siege by the federal government and harmed by our cruel immigration system.
