In Framingham, Massachusetts, residents received unwanted KKK materials. Framingham officials have indicated that they are investigating, but that KKK activities may be protected by the First Amendment. We disagree. Had materials praising ISIS and urging residents to join its ranks appeared unbidden on Framingham doorsteps, we presume that such actions would have been thoroughly condemned and investigated. Similar conduct from the KKK – a domestic terrorist group – should be treated no differently. KKK activities are designed to rob people of their dignity and to foment hate crimes and violence. We are calling for a full-scale investigation into KKK activities not just in Framingham, but in Milford.
