Community Forum on Policing & Diversity

Police Accountability, Racial Justice

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice (LCCR), the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers (MAMLEO), the Boston Branch NAACP, the ACLU of Massachusetts, and the Blackstonian invite individuals and organizations committed to ensuring police accountability and community representation in policing to participate in a Community Forum on Wednesday, July 8th at 6:00 PM.  MAMLEO will host this forum at 61 Columbia Road in Dorchester, MA.

MAMLEO, along with ten former African-American law enforcement officers, are plaintiffs in a major federal lawsuit involving racial discrimination in the Boston Police Department.

The Community Forum will focus on the challenges faced by people of color in law enforcement — this is particularly important as stories and images of police misconduct occupy the hearts and minds of people across the country from Ferguson to Baltimore, and beyond.  Diversity in police ranks is a key component of accountability and community representation.

The forum will feature a discussion with Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, MAMLEO President Larry Ellison, Boston Branch NAACP President and National NAACP Board Member Michael Curry, and ACLU Staff Attorney Carl Williams.

This community forum was featured in Urban Update, the Boston Herald and the Bay State Banner.
