LCCR’s Education Project in the Spotlight

Education, Racial Justice

LCCR’s Education Project Director Matt Cregor was featured as a panelist at a Community Forum on Education hosted by the Boston Branch of the NAACP and the Black Educators’ Alliance of Massachusetts on September 28, 2015. With over 150 people in attendance, the event provided an opportunity for open dialogue on community concerns surrounding the education of our youth. The Banner featured this important forum noting community concerns that “new charter seats will siphon public education dollars away from Boston’s schools.” In a separate article, citing LCCR’s policy report, the Banner noted that “charters are known for stricter discipline, prompting some educational activists to charge that they use such measures to force students out.”

Additionally, Matt Cregor addressed school suspension and expulsion in the October issue of Principal Leadership, a magazine published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals that focuses on school leaders’ needs, offering them practical, hands-on strategies for improving their schools.
