Lawyers’ Committee Receives Sociedad Latina’s “Nuestra Voz” (Our Voice) Award
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice received the prestigious “Nuestra Voz” (Our Voice) Award from Sociedad Latina on September 21, 2017, in an event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The Lawyers’ Committee promotes equal opportunity and fights discrimination on behalf of people of color and immigrants with creative and courageous legal action, education, and advocacy, in collaboration with law firms and community partners. We are conducting comprehensive technical assistance workshops to train students, parents, and community advocates to address racial disparities in school discipline. The award was presented to our Executive Director by two youth advocates — high school students affiliated with Sociedad Latina — who attended the Lawyers’ Committee’s school discipline workshops. Sociedad Latina is a community-based organization providing leadership development and skills training to minority and immigrant youth in Boston’s low-income communities. The Lawyers’ Committee and Sociedad Latina collaborate closely on legal and advocacy issues in the education arena.
