Massachusetts schools are skirting a state law meant to curb suspensions by quietly sending students — many of them with special needs — home without properly recording the absences, according to the Boston Herald.
Matt Cregor, of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, noted: “We are hearing from families that they are not getting the protection under the new law. We want to see the new law followed,” Cregor said, adding that the Lawyers’ Committee has handled numerous cases stemming from “partial day” suspensions.
